Mary Elizabeth Barney Wall

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Barney Wall, 99, of Winston-Salem went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born May 8, 1912 in Davie County to Frank and Mattie Phillips Barney. Mrs. Wall was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of Freeman Street Baptist Church and was retired from P.H. Hanes Company after 33 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband John Frank Wall in 1990; a daughter, Edith Wall Hines in 2008; a special son-in-law, Donald Stone in 2009; two brothers, Dennis Barney and Fred Barney; and three sisters, Ila Hice, Frances Payne, and Ruth Payne. Surviving are three daughters, Jo Ann Thomas of Winston-Salem, Linda Stone of Kernersville, and Judy Koontz of Lexington; 8 grandchildren, Dr. Jane D. Steelman (Max), Sam B. Davis, Jr. (Norma), Tony Thomas (Faye), Mark Thomas (Laura), Karen Sherin (Jeff), J. Neil Tate (Lori), Brian Thomas (Kathy), and Jason Lee; and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 18 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Bob Whitaker and the Rev. Dean Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Kate B.
