Mrs. Mary Ballew Taylor, 62, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center after a long courageous battle with breast cancer for the past 18 years. She was born November 3, 1952 in Greenville, SC to the late Jack and Lillie Ballew. Mary graduated from Winthrop University in 1974 with a BA in Education and later graduated from UNC-Greensboro with a Master's in Education. She enjoyed her career as a dedicated public school teacher for 25 years. Mary was a member and teacher at Calvary Baptist Church. Preceding her in death was a grandson, Samuel. Surviving is her husband of 40 years, Mark Taylor; three sons, Matthew Taylor (Alina), Shawn Taylor (Dana), and Scott Taylor (Lauren); four grandchildren; four siblings, Wayne Ballew, Arnold Ballew, Patti Weaver, and Kelli Davis; also surviving is her mother-in-law, Iva Taylor. A funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Monday, February 23, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Truett Williams and Rev. Shawn Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Enon Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 3-5 PM Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, F.R.O.G. Ministries, 5000 Country Club Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27104. The family would like to thank the staff at Piedmont Hematology/Oncology Associates for the love and care that was given to Mary over the past few years.
