Mary Sue Updike Richardson

OAK RIDGE - Mrs. Mary Sue Updike Richardson, 76, died Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mary was born on October 2, 1936 in Washington, DC to the late Edward Lafayette and Laela Eugenia Mattingly Updike. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mary had a fondness for writing and reading and was of the Methodist Faith. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by one brother, Jon Edward Updike. Surviving are her husband, Walter 'Richard' J. Richardson, Jr. of the home; three children, Walter J. Richardson, III, of Germantown MD, Edward U. Richardson (Jennifer), of Olney, MD and Jon W. Richardson (Regina) of Oak Ridge; seven grandchildren, Nathan, Justin, Sean, Ryan, Danielle, Courtney and Charlotte Richardson; one sister, Carol S. Updike of Dumfries, VA; and two nieces Eleanor Wagoner and Amy Elliott. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Gur Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
