Mary M. Price

Ms. Mary M. Price, 89, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born September 22, 1920 in Grayson County, VA to John David and Ella Spencer Price. Ms. Price was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. Mary spent the early years of her life in Troutdale, Virginia. Martha, her twin sister died at 4 years old. They are now united after 85 years. She met her husband, LaVerne during the war and were married in 1945. she worked for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company for 29 years and retired in April, 1974. Her life and enjoyment was centered around her Pleasant View Baptist Church family and activities. Her friends, Juanita Tuttle, Lillie Scott and Martha Peacock were among those whom she traveled and shopped. Her last simple pleasures were to go out to eat at Mayflower in Rural Hall, Zoe's and Billy Bob's Silver Diner. We would like to thank the staff of these fine restaurants for accommodating her special needs. She is preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne Price and two sisters, Daisy Hooker and Ruth Weaver. Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Armstrong of Winston-Salem, a son, Johnny Price and wife, Teresa of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Serita Armstrong, Mathew Armstrong and Brooke Price; six great-grandchildren; one niece, Linda Bowman; one nephew, Billy Hooker. A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Rev. David Harman officiating. Interment to follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
