Mary Elizabeth "Bobbie" Schuster Nelson

Mary Elizabeth ""Bobbie"" Schuster Nelson of Winston-Salem, NC went to be with the Lord on February 11, 2015 at Salemtowne. Bobbie was born January 22, 1917 in Westfield, NY, the daughter of Harry James and Isma Blanche Rhinehart Schuster. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Erie, PA. After graduating in 1935 from East High School in Erie, PA, she became an office secretary for Dunn & Bradstreet. In 1940, she married Victor Richard Nelson and 22 years later moved to Winston-Salem, NC when her husband's employer relocated. Because of her love for Jesus Christ and her love of music, she joined church choirs in both Erie, Pa. and Winston-Salem (Bethel Baptist Church and Salem Baptist Church, respectively). She was a member of the choir until she was no longer able to sing. After moving to Winston-Salem, she held brief positions at Forsyth Technical College and Sears, Roebuck Co. She was primarily a homemaker extraordinaire and took good care of her husband and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick in 2009, her sister Virginia Holmes Bjornson in 2008, and her brother, Harry James Schuster, Jr. in 1971. She is survived by a son, Richard Dennis Nelson (Lillian) of Charlotte, NC, daughter Shirley Virginia Marzari Unger (David) of Leesport, PA and daughter Barbara Ruth Nelson Childress (Phillip) of Winston-Salem. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Melissa Meacham (Lance), Jeanne Richter (Lance), Timothy Childress (Mindy) and Stephanie Mihalovits (Michael) as well as nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Mercedes Nelson and two brothers-in-law, Edward Nelson and William Nelson of Erie, PA. She would like to especially thank Brenda and Tom Richardson and their family who were wonderful Christian friends and helped her in so many different ways. Special thanks also are sent to the staff at Salemtowne who took such good care of her during the final years of her life. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 16, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Floyd Boles officiating. Entombment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 15 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will accept flowers; in addition, memorials may be sent in her name to the Salemtowne Endowment Fund, 1000 Salemtowne Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
