Mary Joán Kerner Meier, 87, a mathematician and artist died Wednesday Jan 3, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence Albert Kerner, Monica Tierney, step-mother Mary O'Loughlin, and sister Judy Kerner Chase. She is survived by her husband, Robert Joseph Meier, children Lynn Henry and Dr. Robert Joseph Meier, Jr., brother James Kerner, and grandchildren Ethan Henry and Shannon Henry, and several nieces and nephews.
Born in Brookville, PA on August 19, 1930, she worked as an accountant for St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and Herring Decorators. She earned a Bachelor of Math degree from Immaculata University. An early officer of the Society of Women Engineers, she worked as an Engineer for Bell Telephone in the 1960s.
She was a very active member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church.
Artistically talented, she painted, and served as Treasurer for the Triad Decorative Painters.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, with Rev. Brian Cook officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joán's honor to Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church, 335 Springdale Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
