Mary Maxine McCollum

Oak Ridge-Mrs. Mary Maxine McCollum, 84, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Wesley Long Community Hospital. She was born January 16, 1924 in Guilford Co. to the late Clifton and Eva Carter McCollum. Mrs. McCollum was a charter member of Colfax Baptist Church, where she served as a custodian for 35 years. Maxine lived in Colfax all of her life, until the past 5 years she went to live with her daughter in Oak Ridge. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Roy Howard McCollum, Sr.; a grandson, Jeffrey William Blackmon. Surviving are a daughter, Pamela M. Tatum and husband James of Oak Ridge; a step-son, Howard McCollum, Jr. and wife Kitty of Colfax; three grandchildren, Kevin McCollum, Amanda Blackmon, and Amber Davis. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Colfax Baptist Church with the Rev. Beauford Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Wesleyan Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the church. Hayworth Miller Funeral Home Kernersville Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
