Mary Bennett Knott

Mary Bennett Knott, formerly of Winston-Salem, passed away on March 12, 2012, in Marietta, Georgia. She was born on March 4, 1921 in the village of Hanes, Forsyth County, to the late Romy Olive and Beulah Miller Bennett. She was predeceased by her husband William Monroe Knott, her son Waco Knott, her sisters Phyllis McCamman and Mallie Penry, and her brothers, R.O. Bennett Jr., William O. Bennett, and Troy C. Bennett. She is survived by her children: Robert (Bob) Knott and wife Brenda, William (Bill) Knott and wife Betsy, and Margaret (Marty) Tope and husband Charlie; her sister June Rikard and sister-in-law Marj Bennett; nine grandchildren: Andrea Brewer, Stephanie Buice, Chris Campbell, Lisa Garfinkle, Andrew Knott, Bob Knott Jr., Clint Knott, Mark Tope and Rob Tope; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mary lived in the Winston-Salem area her entire life until two years ago when she moved to Marietta, Georgia, where she enjoyed the loving care provided by her daughter Marty and Marty's family. She will be remembered as a beautiful lady who made her family and her church the center of her life. She was active in North Winston Baptist Church (now Northwest Baptist), teaching Sunday school and keeping the nursery for many years. Her well-kept home was always open for family gatherings at Christmas and Easter and was the site of many children's birthday parties and backyard barbeques. Her chicken salad, hamburgers and gravy, potato salad, and creamed corn were delicious family favorites, while Mary's personal favorite was fried chicken livers. Mary and her husband Bill, Nana and Pop to the grandchildren, enriched their family with unfailing love, constant support and enduring memories. Her funeral service will be held at Northwest Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 12:00 noon. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. Memorial gifts may be made to Northwest Baptist Church, 407 Petree Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
