Mary Gardner Kiger

Mary Elizabeth Gardner Kiger of Winston-Salem passed away on Thursday evening, January 29, 2015, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born December 29, 1921, in Buncombe County near Asheville, NC to Gay W. Gardner and Ida Dodd Gardner. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Gerald L. Gardner and G.D. Gardner, and sister Betty Hensley.
Mrs. Kiger was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Lewisville Baptist Church, the Sally Lillington Sunday School Class and the Women's Missionary Union. She was a member of the Twin City Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 53 years and was a past matron.
Surviving are her husband of 77 years, William S. Kiger, Jr., three sons, Robert W. Kiger of Atlanta, GA, Jack E. Kiger (Kay) of Knoxville, TN, and Dewey L. Kiger (Betty) of Winston-Salem, NC, five grand-children, W. Steadman Kiger, III (Jingli) of Brookline, MA, Scott Kiger (Laura) of Lyerly, GA, Leigh Ann Frazier (Gene) of Winston-Salem, Brian Kiger (Nargiza) of Tamale, Ghana, Kathryn Stevens (Paul) of Leland, NC, seven great-grandchildren, Juliana Frazier, Winston-Salem, NC, Rhett Kiger, Lyerly, GA, Mary Elizabeth Kiger and William S. Kiger, IV, Brookline, MA, Mina Stevens and Duncan Stevens, Leland, NC.
The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home at 3315 Silas Creek Parkway on Saturday, January 31 from 3:30 to 5 PM. The funeral service will be held at Lewisville Baptist Church at 2 PM on Sunday February 1, immediately followed by a burial service at Forsyth Memorial Park.
