Mary Vichich Hartman

Mary Barbara Vichich Hartman, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 17, 2025, in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on October 18, 1935, to the late Felix and Mary Vichich. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, Mary worked as a business and journalism teacher at Plum Senior High School and took pride in her many students and her involvement and sponsorship over the school newspaper. Following the birth of her daughter, Mary embarked on her most enduring life’s work- the love and care of her husband and children. Mary was a phenomenal hostess, making everyone who entered her home feel loved, cared about, and well fed. Mary was an incredible cook and baker, and pies and cakes were her specialties. Mary’s strong faith in God stemmed from her being a devout Catholic, and she attended mass regularly. Mary set a wonderful example for her children and grandchildren to live by. She will be missed immensely by those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her son, Thomas Hartman, as well as a sister, Catherine (Vichich) Polosky.

Surviving is her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Frank Hartman; a daughter, Catherine Beddick (Tony); a son, James Hartman; a daughter-in-law, LeeAnn Hartman; as well as three grandchildren, Cassie Beddick, Alex Beddick, and Alissa Hartman.

Services will be held at a later date at Mt. Airy Cemetery in Pennsylvania.
