Mrs. Mary Ruth Pendry Gardner, 76, arrived at her new address to start a new life in a new city on Monday, September 8, 2008. She was born June 4, 1932 in Forsyth County to the late Charles Sidney and Dora Edwards Pendry. Mrs. Gardner was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who had a strong faith which she passed along to her children. She was a member of South Stokes Church of Christ for 37 years. She enjoyed cooking, playing piano and organ, and spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gardner was preceded in death by six brothers, Tom, Marvin, Curtis, Alvin, Clyde, and Elmer; four sisters, Nina, Thelma, Alma and Madie Melton who passed away only three weeks earlier. Surviving are her loving and devoted husband of 59 years, Leo Gardner of the home; son, Terry S. Gardner and wife, Patricia A. of Kernersville; daughter, Melissa K. Vaquera of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Carmen Vaquera and Carlos Samayoa; a brother, Charles Edward Pendry; and a half sister, Deana. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 11 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Wm. Jerry Pence, Minister officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. this evening at the funeral home.
