Winston-Salem: Fishel: Mrs. Mary Alice Chilton Fishel, 88, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, June 26, 2010. Mrs. Fishel was born June 25, 1922 in Lexington, NC to the late Lillie Vesta Aaron and Raleigh Elwood Chilton. At an early age she and her family moved to Winston-Salem. She graduated from Reynolds High School in 1939, attended Appalachian State Teachers College, and graduated from Draughons Business College. After graduation, she worked for the City of Winston-Salem Planning and Permits Department and retired from Winston Leaf and Tobacco Storage Co., where she was secretary to the President of the Compay. After retirement, Mary and her husband enjoyed traveling with the Nifty-Fifty's Club at Trinity Moravian Church and was active member of the Harmony House Homemakers Club and the Winston Winners Investment Club. She lived at Homestead Hills Assisted Living for 10 years and while there, she was involved with the Handbell Choir and played the piano for some of the Sunday Services. Mrs. Fishel was a member of Trinity Moravian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James David Fishel, Sr.; her brother, Raleigh Elwood Chilton, Jr.; an infant daughter, Mary Katherine Fishel and two grandchildren, Stephen Earle Garrett and Christopher Michael Garrett. Surviving to cherish her memory are three children; James David Fishel, Jr. and wife, Ann; Daniel Elwood Fishel and wife, Lois all of Winston-Salem; Cheryl Fishel Garrett and husband, Larry of Chesapeake, VA; two grandchildren; Antonia Blinn and husband, David of MA; Daniel Elwood Fishel, Jr. and fiancé©e, Jeannine Johnston of Greensboro, NC and two sisters, Helen Riley and husband, Joseph of High Point, NC and Imogene Caudle and husband, Donald of Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Tuesday, June 29 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The Funeral Service will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday, June 30 at Trinity Moravian Church conducted by the Rev. John Jackman. Burial will follow in the Salem Moravian Graveyard. The Family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Homestead Assisted Living and to the staff at the Bryan's Center for the care given to Mary Alice.
