Mrs. Mary Julia Futch Fachtmann, 84, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021, at Brookridge Retirement Community. She was born on January 25, 1937, in Lawtey, Florida. She obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music from Florida State University and from 1962 to 1995 she taught music and elementary education in Tallahasse, Florida and at a Department of Defense school in Yokohama, Japan (now called Richard E. Byrd Elementary). Mary loved her family and her two frogs, listening to concerts and symphonies, Japanese food, volunteering, playing the piano for churches and retirement homes, traveling all over the world with her husband (and later her child), and most of all, her relationship with God. She volunteered at Ardmore Baptist Church, which she attended for over 25 years. She regularly visited people at Brookridge Retirement Community, which ultimately became her home in Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her loving spouse of 26 years, Rolph Charles Fachtmann; her father and mother, Melvin Futch and Joyce Terry Futch; her brother, Terry Futch and wife, Patsy; and her sister-in-law, Vonciel Futch. Mary is survived by her only child, Carla Fachtmann Fuschillo and husband, Richard; two brothers, Benton and Ralph Futch; nephews, Steve Futch and wife, Cindy, Jeff Futch and wife, Tish, Bruch Futch and wife, Rhonda, and Dean Futch and wife, Jill; nieces, Eve Jones and husband, Chuck and Karen Sawyer; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at Ardmore Baptist Church with Rev. Tyler Tankersley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pivot Ministry, 501 Miller St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103, Second Harvest Food Bank of NWNC, 3655 Reed St., Winston-Salem, NC 27107, and Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mrs. Fachtmann.
