Mary Lois Darnell Wood, 79, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 23, 2024, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.
Mary was born on November 25th, 1944, in Forsyth County as the third child to the late DeEtte Darnell James and Roney Darnell.

She married young and had three children with her late ex-husband, Bobby William Wood. She was a homemaker in her early life with a short stint as the biscuit maker for Hardees in Clemmons, she was later self-employed with her own cleaning service. She enjoyed sewing and making her own clothes for many years. She loved family gatherings and always wanted to be the life of the party! She enjoyed traveling and shopping with friends. And she was always up for an opportunity to go to a swimming pool. Mary loved her Lord Jesus Christ and her church family at Parkway Chapel and Triad Christian Fellowship.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Wayne Hurst; special sister-in-law, Tina Darnell; beloved mother-in-law, Lucille Wood and grandson, Ryan Wood.
Surviving are her brother Buck Darnell; George Lemons, her devoted companion of many years. Grandchildren; Allyssa Jones, Josh Wood, Briana Bralley Holt (Jonathan), Morgan Bralley Patel (Deep), Gabe Sanner-Klug, India Wood and Maggie Wood and great grand-daughter Collins Holt.
She had really slowed down in recent years but her health quickly declined after a heart attack this past April. Thanks to George for being her rock especially these last two months and the special care of all the medical personnel who helped sustain her.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 11:00am at New Day Community Church in Lewisville.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Second Harvest Food Bank.
