Mary Lucille Clemens, 96, of Winston- Salem, NC died peacefully in her home on April 30, 2016.
Lucille was born in Moscow, Idaho on October 3, 1919 to the late Edith and Leif Rokke. She grew up on a farm in Walla Walla Washington and moved to the east coast after World War II. She worked for many years for the South Carolina state government in Columbia, SC. After retirement she spent her time as an active hospital volunteer and a devoted grandmother to her three granddaughters. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Klemensky, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers. Lucille is survived by her son, Dennis Clemens, and his wife, Mary of Winston-Salem, NC, and 3 grand-daughters: Amy Clemens Yates, her husband Preston Yates of Winston-Salem, NC, Kelly Clemens of Washington DC, and Mary Katherine Clemens of Winston-Salem, NC. Her daughter, Mary Lou Clemens, of Amsterdam, NY, also survives her.
The family would like the thank Trinity Elms Rehabilitation Center, the staff of the Forsyth Medical Center Palliative Care unit including Greg Robins PA-C and all of the caregivers who have helped out along the way. A very special thanks goes out to Jan Ruff, her amazing caregiver and friend these past few years, and to Michelle Gaddis who was also a blessing. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, May 7 at 1:00 pm in Columbia, SC at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, May 5 from 6-8pm at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Augsburg Lutheran Church, Winston-Salem, NC.
