Mary Wallace Richardson Carter

Mary Wallace Richardson Carter, 82, passed away unexpectedly at home on September 10, 2008. Mary was born on March 28, 1926, in Mayodan, NC, to John B. and Jessie Vaden Richardson. She graduated from Mayodan High School in 1943. She retired from N.C. Baptist Hospital in 1991. Mary was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 38 years and a member of Dottie Thompson's Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Jack Carter, her parents, a sister, Edith Roberts, a brother, Thomas O. Ward, and a nephew, Thomas Jerome Ward. She was a loving wife, mother, and sister. Anyone who knew her knew she was especially proud of her four grandchildren, Meghan, Lauren, Matt, and Lyndsey. Mary loved the Lord and preparing meals for her family and friends, whom she considered family. Mary devoted the past ten years to caring for her sister, Edith, until her death in February. She is survived by three children and special daughter-in-law and son-in-laws, John and Lori Carter, Jackie and Frank Thomas, and Rosie and Ron Hutchens. Other survivors are three nephews, John H. Ward, Fred Ward, Thomas O. Ward, Jr., all of Florida, and two nieces, Bevarly Jackson and Gwynn Tyree, of Georgia, and many great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Friday at the funeral home. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to two very devoted friends, Barbara Burgess and Beth Martin for their love and care to Mary.
