Mary Hart Sandefur Butler

Mrs. Mary Hart Sandefur Butler, 97, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born July 28, 1916 in Forsyth County to Napolean Thomas and Mary Burnside Sandefur. She was retired from Wake Forest University and was a devoted member of Memorial Reformed Church for 70 years, where she served as Sunday School teacher and secretary of the Women's Guild. Mary Hart enjoyed attending her church faithfully. In the last few years, she faithfully watched Dr. Stanley on TV at 11:00 on Sunday morning. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Renus, a brother. N.T., Jr. sisters, Lydia Sandefur and Jean Sparks, and a daughter-in-law, Kathryn M. Butler. Surviving are her son, Duane T. Butler; two grandchildren, Katrina Taylor (Scott) and Angie McHugh; two great grandchildren, Joseph and Ashlea Taylor; two sisters, Elizabeth (Lib) S. Daniels and Nancy S. Hinshaw. A special thanks to a cherished niece, Jo Anne Watts and her husband, Earl. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Bill Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
