Mary "Olene" Smith Brewer

Mary Olene Smith Brewer ""Memaw"" passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, July 29, 2017. She was born August 10, 1923 in Colfax to the late Burlie and Eva Smith. She married the love of her life, Roy Brewer, in 1946. She had four amazing children, David, JoAnn, Ronnie and Jan. Olene and Roy lived a lifetime of wonderful memories taking many impromptu vacations and visits to see friends and family. She dedicated her life to babysitting children and made a lasting impression on the life of so many over the years. Olene was a fabulous baker and loved to make homemade cakes and pies for friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting and made countless gifts for others. While she wasn't able to attend church in the later years, there was no doubt that her heart was made of gold and that she loved Jesus. Olene was preceded in death by her four brothers, her husband Roy, and her two sons David and Ronnie. Surviving are her daughters, JoAnn (David) Arrington of Lewisville and Jan (David) Kiger of Walkertown, grandchildren, Sherry (David) McGuire, Crystal (Paul) Spicer, Kristina Able, Amanda (Jacob) Brewer, and great grandchildren Matt, Alli, Quinn, Jaden, Jackson and Nora. We would also like to recognize extended family Tom and Linda Cagle and Wayne and Sandra Beeson. The family sends a special thank you to the staff at Clemmons Village II where she has resided for the last year and a half. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 1 at 11:00 at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Winston Salem.
