Mary Hiatt

Mrs. Mary S. Hiatt of Winston-Salem, NC has passed away on August 29, 2021.  She is survived by her husband, John D. Hiatt.  Their five children are Dr. John Donald (Don) Hiatt, Jr. (Jane), Keith S. Hiatt (Becky), Dr. Paul K. Hiatt (Christina), Anne Hiatt Stuart (Darryl), and Dr. Mark D. Hiatt (Amy).  Mrs. Hiatt cherished her life as a mother of 5 children, as a grandmother of 22 grandchildren, and a great-grandmother of 29 great-grandchildren.    She will be greatly missed.   The family activities and events over the years will remain treasured memories for all of the family.  Mrs. Hiatt was born on August 12, 1928, to the late John and Helen Sulich of New York.  She is survived by her brother Michael Sulich of New York.   She is predeceased by her son, Dr. J. Donald Hiatt, Jr.;  grandson, Scott W. Hiatt;  brother Dr. John Sulich, Jr. of New York; sister Mrs. Helen Rusnak of New York; and sister Mrs. Ann Raser of Los Angeles.  Mrs. Hiatt graduated from the State University of New York in Albany.  She was awarded a graduate fellowship in science at Union College in Schenectady, New York.   While attending Union College, she met her husband who received a similar fellowship.  They married on August 23, 1952.  Mrs. Hiatt taught high school courses in physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics in upstate New York, before dedicating the balance of her life to being a beloved spouse, mother, grandmother, and homemaker, as well as supporting various community and church organizations.  The family will be holding a private ceremony in her honor.  Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
