Mr. Marvin Clay Spencer, 89, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021 in his home after a year of declining health. He was born December 4, 1931 in Randolph County to the late Robert and Lillian Spencer. Marvin was an avid fisherman, gardener, and loved the beach and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After his tenure in the Navy, Marvin joined the Merchant Marines. He began his employment at R.J. Reynolds in 1960 and retired in 1989 after 29 years. Retirement brought lots of travel, camping and fishing at the Outer Banks and Emerald Isle. In addition to his parents, Marvin is preceded in death by nine siblings; a son, Robert D. Spencer; and two granddaughters, Kori and Hannah Jessup. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret Harris Spencer; two daughters, Teresa Jessup (Greg) and Tina Williams (Doug); daughter-in-law, Dawn Touchton; six grandchildren, Lindsey, Megan, Taylor (Morgan), Garrett (Jordan), Sam, and Jake; three great-grandchildren, Brycen, Emerson, and Finn; a brother, John Spencer (Wendy); and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 10:00 AM Saturday, September 4th at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens; 3250 High
Point Road, Winston-Salem, NC, 27107. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trellis Supportive Care.
