Mr. Marvin Tyler Rakes, age 90 of Pfafftown passed away April 9 2015 at High Point Regional Hospital. He was born in Floyd County, VA May 21, 1924 to George Tyler and Zada Elizabeth Huff Rakes. Mr. Rakes was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, he retired from Lucent as an accountant with 39 years of service, a veteran of the US Army having served during World War II with the 34th Infantry Division and attended National Business College in Roanoke, VA. In addition to his parents Mr. Rakes was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Lessley Rakes. Mr. Rakes is survived by his daughter, Ann Rakes of CA and one son, Marvin T. Rakes, Jr. and wife Roxanne of FL. One brother, Allen (Alma) Rakes of Raleigh. Funeral services for Mr. Rakes will be held Friday, April 17, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home Chapel in Rural Hall by Dr. Suzanne Michael. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem. Military burial honors will be provided by King American Legion Post 290. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service.
