Mr. Marvin Columbus Hanks, 98, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022. He was born January 7, 1924, Wilkes County, NC to the late Ruben and Virgie Hanks.
He had a strong faith in a loving God. Marvin often said he believed God put him on earth to put a smile on others' faces. He was a man that loved and found peace in nature. He cherished his time as a Mason and his Masonic brothers. While he worked in many different jobs throughout his life, he fulfilled his dream job as a tobacco auctioneer, and could easily be convinced to show off his auctioneer chant. Marvin was a World War 2 veteran proudly serving in the Navy.
In addition to his parents, Marvin is preceded in death by his first wife, Lou Ray; second wife, Carol Jean Hanks; and three siblings: Irene, Arvil, and Jasper. He is survived by four daughters: Paulette, Michelle (Kelvin), Donna, and Cheryl (David); five grandchildren: Margay, Steven, Ashley, Sarah, and Sonia; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, cherished friends and neighbors. A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday, November 5th at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Friday, November 4th at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Senior Services Inc of W-S and Forsyth County, Hospice, or the charity of your choice.
