Marvin Clay Doub

On Friday, November 12, 2010, Marvin Clay Doub, 72, passed into the more immediate presence of his Lord and Savior at Forsyth Medical Center. Marvin was born in Winston-Salem, NC, on March 23, 1938, to Edna Lentz Doub, and Lindsey Newton Doub. He attended the city schools and graduated from John G. Hanes High School in 1958. He served two years in the U.S. Army Artillery, attaining the rank of sergeant. For 36 years he was employed by RJR Archer, beginning with the start of the facility. During retirement, he worked part-time with Old Salem. In 1964, he married Janet Thomas Doub, who survives. He is also survived by his mother, Edna Doub Gordon of Winston-Salem. He and Janet had two daughters: Melanie Doub Ahr, whose husband is Sean Michael Ahr of Raleigh, and Christina Doub Burton, whose husband is Jeff T. Burton of Midway. He is also survived by four adored grandchildren: Charles Andrew Ahr, Sarah Grace Ahr, Matthew Thomas Ahr, and Nathaniel Thomas Burton. Also surviving are his brother-in-law, Bob Thomas, and wife Pam, his niece Ashley Thomas and his nephews, Brent Thomas, Brad Thomas, and wife Tracy. As long as health permitted, his passion was for participating in and officiating sports. His love was for his family and his church. Marvin was a member of Konnoak Hills Moravian Church, where he served in numerous ways. Lovefeast coffee making and cooking for many occasions were two of his favorite ways to serve. Since 1978, he had been a member of the Winston-Salem/Konnoak Hills Lions, serving at the local, district and state levels. In 1993-94, he served as District Governor of North Carolina Lions. His civic involvement included the Board of the North Carolina Eye Bank, the Winston-Salem Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Board of Laurel Ridge Moravian Camp. During his years of declining health, he was served by many wonderful physicians; Drs. Sigal, Rose, Mitchell, Pierce, and Greenwood as well as the staff of Winston-Salem Health Care. His family is very grateful for their compassionate care. Thank you to the T-ICU and Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center for their loving care during his final days. His family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel from 6-8 PM on Sunday, November 14. Funeral Services will be conducted by Rev. John D. Rights and Rev. Ray Burke at 2 PM on Monday, November 15, at Konnoak Hills Moravian Church, 3401 Konnoak Drive. Burial will follow in God's Acre. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Konnoak Hills Moravian Church Kitchen Fund, to Camp Laurel Ridge of the Moravian Church, or to Camp Dogwood Lions Camp.
