Marvin Carter Brisson

Marvin Carter Brisson went home to be with His Lord and Savior on June 20, 2023, one week shy of his 95th birthday. He “fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith.” In addition to his parents, Walter and Melvina Brisson, Marvin was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years, Mildred Horne Brisson; siblings Nola, Charlie, James, Robert, and Preston.

Marvin spent his life serving God and The Church of God of Prophecy.  He began his ministry in 1949 and pastored twenty churches throughout Florida and North Carolina, planting eight churches over a 40-year tenure.  Marvin will be remembered for his building projects.  He left his handprint on the churches he planted and pastored, constructing several church buildings and parsonages.

Marvin retired in the early 90’s, but he never stopped preaching.  For several years after he retired from pastoring, Marvin hit the road and shared the gospel in churches across North Carolina.  When he could no longer share from the pulpit, the preaching didn’t stop.  Marvin shared his testimony with anyone and everyone who came to visit.

Marvin Carter Brisson was a man of impeccable faith and love for God, church, and family.  He became the caregiver of his wife, Mildred, in her final years — devoting his life to making hers as comfortable as possible.  He was a great father and grandfather, leaving his family a wonderful heritage that is cherished by each sibling.

Marvin is survived by his children, Carolyn Carr; Johnny Brisson and wife, Linda; Marvin Brisson Jr; Betsey Kelley and husband, Ralph; and Kathy Barker and husband, J.R.  The grandchildren include Lorie Bowden and husband, Preston; Jeffrey Carr and wife Tina; Danielle Brisson; Ethan Brisson; Brandon Kelley and wife, Heather; Zachary Kelley and wife, Jill; Tyler Barker and wife, Carla.  Marvin leaves ten great grandchildren:  Baylee, Seth, Buddy, Noah, Davis, Paisley, Liza, Nora, Parker and Davis.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 24, 2023, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Life Impact Church of God of Prophecy, 5090 Main St, Winston-Salem, NC 27107, followed by a service to celebrate Marvin’s life at 2:00 p.m.
