Winston-Salem-Mrs. Martha Mary Rommel Wells of Winston-Salem, passed away on October 15, 2009 at Salemtowne Retirement Community. She was born on January 13, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late George William and Catherine Theresa Ward Rommel. Mrs. Wells was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church. Prior to her declining health, Mrs. Wells enjoyed her work with the Pine Grove United Methodist Women's organization and enjoyed participating in several church-sponsored missions trips to Antigua and Puerto Rico. Mrs. Wells operated Martnee's Day Care in her home for twenty-seven years, which she considered to be one of her greatest joys. After retirement, she enjoyed working in her garden, traveling, and volunteering at the Alzheimer's Association and Crisis Control. Mrs. Wells was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam Lockwood Wells; three sisters and six brothers. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Wells Sondrini of Columbus, Ohio and Kathy Wells Neace and her husband Jim of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Dominic Sondrini and wife Karen of Columbus, Ohio and Mary Beth Neace Taintor and husband Todd of Raleigh, NC; three great-grandchildren, Fiona and Vivian Sondrini of Columbus, Ohio and Drew Taintor of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Mary Rommel Blake of Baltimore, Maryland; two brothers, Oscar Rommel and John Rommel of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with Dr. Steve Martin and Dr. Leonard Hornick, nephew of Mrs. Wells, officiating. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM in the church Narthex before the service. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons, NC.
