Martha Anne Vinson

Martha Anne Vinson, 54, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born February 22, 1960 in Goldsboro, North Carolina to the late James T. and Elizabeth B. Vinson. Her parents preceded her in death, along with a sister, Jeanne V. Masten of Winston-Salem, and a brother, Daniel T. Vinson, of Goldsboro. She earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master's degree from Western Carolina University, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, Fresno, CA. Martha dedicated her life to helping others. She served as a Clinical Psychologist at Forsyth Medical Center and recently established a private practice. She was an active member of Friedland Moravian Church and found much support in the New Life Sunday School Class. Motherhood was her passion. She regarded her role as a parent as a privilege, gift and blessing. Martha's greatest joy was her daughter and she gave her all in relationships as a life partner, teacher, counselor, daughter, sister, and aunt. She loved music and could always be heard whistling, humming, or singing a tune. Above all, she loved people, and cherished spending time with friends, family, and neighbors. Martha is survived by her partner, Elizabeth Ruth Rogers and her daughter, Abigail Elizabeth Vinson; her older brothers and sisters, James T. Vinson, III of Raleigh, Elizabeth B. Vinson (and husband Melton Earl Underhill, Jr.) of Goldsboro, Robin K. Vinson (and wife, Tracy) of Raleigh, Sue Vinson Luse (and husband, Will) of Litchfield Park, AZ, Henry M. Vinson (and wife, Kay) of Blythewood, SC, and Mark R. Vinson (and wife, Elizabeth) of Newburg, MD; her uncle, Dr. John Thomas Bunn (and wife, Lois) of Sylva; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Friedland Moravian Church, 2750 Friedland Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
