Martha Linker

Martha Wells Linker, 85, of Clemmons died peacefully in her home of 55 years on January 15, 2019.  She was born in Greensboro on November 20, 1933 to the late Mellie Kate and Chalmers Reid Wells.  Martha worked for Western Electric and there she won the title of Miss Hello Charley as well as several other local beauty pageants.  She moved to Clemmons in 1964 when she married J. Dodd Linker, Sr.  Martha joined the choir at Clemmons Moravian Church and was also active in many other groups in the church.  She enjoyed and was active in several other clubs including Garden Club, Civic Club Auxillary, Extension Homemakers, and Red Hat Society.  Martha was a very involved Girl Scout leader for many years.  She was dedicated to genealogy research and became a member and Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Daughters of the War of 1812, and Colonial Dames.  A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother she will be deeply missed.  She is survived by her son, David Cline (Brenda); daughter, Martha Linker Mabe (Steve); step-son, J. Dodd Linker, Jr. (Carol); brother, George Wells; four grandchildren: Dodd Linker III, Emily Linker Derrick, Kayla Cline Helms and Jacob Cline; three great-grandchildren: Brianna and Katherine Derrick, and Clara Helms. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband J. Dodd Linker, Sr.  A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 23 at Clemmons Moravian Church with Pastor Chris Thore officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, January 22 at the church.
