Martha Hutchinson Hampton

Mrs. Martha Hutchinson Hampton, 83, of Lewisville, NC, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at The Newport Skilled Nursing Home in Newport News, VA. Martha was born on January 19, 1932, in Richmond County, North Carolina to the late Joseph Franklin and Mary Belle Covington Hutchinson. A graduate of Gray High School in Winston-Salem, she trained as an x-ray technician at City Hospital. There she met her future husband, Dr. James H. Hampton. Martha and Jim lived their entire 54 years of marriage in Lewisville, where Jim served as the family physician for over 40 years. She loved and served Jim's patients in their time of need. Martha was a devoted and active member of Lewisville United Methodist Church, serving in various ministries through the years. Martha poured into the lives of her children, Jan and Greg, and was a constant source of encouragement and care for them. Martha loved family gatherings for Christmas, Easter, birthdays, and reunions. She cherished her friendships in the community of Lewisville. In addition to her parents, Martha is preceded in death by her husband Jim; daughter, Jan Hampton; and one sister, Mary Dampier. Surviving are her son, the Rev. Greg Hampton and his wife, Maura of Newport News, VA; nieces, Patrice Caudle of Lewisville and Tina Dampier of Winston Salem; nephews, Doug Dampier and his wife, Teresa of Winston-Salem, Jerry Sumner and his wife, Mary of Florida. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at Lewisville United Methodist Church with Dr. Ivan Peden officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
