Martha Kelman Barton

Mrs. Martha Kelman Barton, 87, of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at her home. She was born June 12, 1924 in Forsyth County to William and Leslie Morton Kelman. She was a member of Forsyth Park Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, John S. Barton, Sr., a brother, William, sisters, Frances, Aggie and Josephine and a daughter- in- law, Helen. Martha was an avid birdwatcher and a ""Birdie Watcher"" owing to her love of golf. She attended R.J. Reynolds High School, graduating in 1941. In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed by and retired from Thalhimers after more than 20 years of service. She inherited her father's baking skills and graced the family with many scrumptious cakes, pies and confections. Surviving are five children, Kathryn M. Cando and husband, Roger, John S. Barton, Jr., Marty B. Lowe and husband, Rick, Cindy B. Eddins and husband, Eric and Peter K. Barton; 13 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister in law, Phyllis Kelman; and a great number of loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Forsyth Park Baptist Church with Rev. John Krivsky and Dalton W. King officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
