Marlette Jones Liveright died peacefully, surrounded by her family members, December 11, 2022 in the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC after experiencing a period of declining health. Marlette was born August 18, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, a daughter of Edgar Ralph Jones and Esther Jarvis Jones. She graduated from Northville High School and Michigan State University, before marrying her first husband, Robert (Bob) Lee Baker. Marlette and Bob moved to Rock Hill, SC, where she worked as a librarian at Winthrop University. They later relocated to Asheville, NC and Harrisonburg, VA, where she was a housewife and mother. In 1968, Marlette and her family moved to High Point, NC, where she and Bob established Dunhill Personnel Agency and Marlette Baker Temporaries, a staffing agency. During this time, they became instrument-rated personal and commercial pilots. They owned several personal airplanes and enjoyed using them for business and pleasure travel. They also owned a vacation home on a private airstrip in the Ocala National Forest in Florida. After Bob died in 1981, Marlette completed a house in Mount Dora, FL and retired there in 1986. In 1989, Marlette married Alfred (Al) M. Liveright in Mount Dora. They were married for 30 years and enjoyed many active years, that included travels across the globe. During her years in Mount Dora, Marlette was active in many organizations, including the Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce, Mount Dora Sister Cities Association, and the University Club of Winter Park. She also served on the boards of the Mount Dora Library and the Lake County Library system, the Lakes and Hills Garden Club, the Ice House Theater, and the Community Concerts Association. Mrs. Liveright was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Bob Baker; her second husband Al Liveright; her sister Geraldine Jones Darga; and her brother, Donald Ralph Jones. She is survived by her children Sherri Lynn Baker of Raleigh, NC; Julie Gundy (Mike) of Katy, (Houston), TX; and David Lee Baker (Marcia) of Clemmons (Winston-Salem). She is also survived by her stepson, Keith Liveright of Greensboro, NC and her stepdaughter, Alisa Lattner (Tim) of Tallahassee, FL; as well as four grandchildren, two step grandchildren, three great-granddaughters, and five nephews and nieces. Mrs. Liveright’s arrangements are being handled by Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home of Winston-Salem, NC. A family celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In leu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC, 27103.
