On Saturday, April 19th, 2025, Mark Alexander Holmes, passed away at his home, in Farmington, while enjoying a beautiful spring day, doing what he loved most, working in his beloved garden at 62 years old. 

Mark graduated from East Forsyth High School in 1980 and attended Appalachian State University where he met Nancy, his wife, in 1981. Mark joined the United States Marine Corps in December of 1981, where he had the opportunity to travel all over the world. Mark and Nancy were later married in 1984 and after 2 years in the Jacksonville, NC area they moved to Naples, Italy where both of their children were born. Mark was one of the Sergeants of the Guard for the Naval Support Activity Naples, Italy. Upon returning to the states, the family settled and built their dream home in Davie County where they currently reside.

Mark earned his undergraduate degree and MBA from High Point University and spent the last fifteen plus years working for the Veteran's Affairs Department as the Administrator Officer for Compensation and Pension. He dedicated his life to ensuring other veterans could enjoy theirs.

Mark was born on June 10th, 1962 in Forsyth County to the late James Milton Holmes and Alda Wiggs Holmes. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Ellis Holmes, his daughters Virginia Holmes Barksdale and Samantha Holmes Neal, their husbands Stephen Barksdale and Keith Neal, as well as Mark and Nancy’s six beautiful grandchildren.

Virginia and her husband, Stephen, reside in Durham, NC, with their two children. Samantha and her husband, Keith, reside in Clemmons with their four children. Mark is also survived by his sister, Dr. Melinda Holmes of Akron, Ohio; his brother, Don Holmes and his wife Sarah of Pfafftown; and his sister-in-law, Becky Holmes of Statesboro, GA. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, veteran community, co-workers, and the hard working crew at the Harris Teeter Starbucks in Clemmons, NC.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Farmington Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
