Mark Newell Guyer

Mark Newell Guyer, 69, passed away on July 27, 2024, in Oakwood, GA, at his home surrounded by his beloved family. Born on May 7, 1955, in Winston-Salem, NC, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who left a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Mark graduated from North Forsyth High School in 1973 and continued his education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned his degree in 1977. In 1978, Mark married his high school sweetheart, Pam, whom he loved and adored. They went on to have two daughters, Ashley and Dare, in the early 1980s. Together they lived in multiple states across the southeast and settled in Oakwood, GA 20 years ago. Living on the lake, Mark was able to spend countless hours on his boat with family and friends. This is where Mark was happiest. In 2020, he became a grandfather for the first time. His grandchildren, Carter and Brooks, brought him immense joy over the last four years.

Mark had a distinguished career in the freight and energy sectors. A career that was marked by dedication and leadership, beginning at Pilot Freight right after college and culminating as the Vice President of Operations at Jacobus Energy, where he retired in 2019. Known for his strong work ethic and loyalty, Mark always prioritized the well-being of his co-workers and gave his all to every endeavor. He was a disciplined and hardworking individual, traits that were reflected both in his professional life and personal passions.

Mark's love for sports was evident as he cheered for the Steelers during NFL seasons, supported the Braves in baseball, and never missed a North Carolina basketball game. His hobbies included being on the lake, enjoying live music, and spending cherished moments with his family and friends.

He was a lifelong follower of Christ, growing up in Mineral Springs Baptist Church and later attending Free Chapel in Gainesville, GA. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his quiet stewardship and generosity.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Pam Griffin Guyer; daughters, Ashley Guyer and Dare Guyer (Ryan Howell); grandsons, Carter and Brooks Howell; mother, Mary Jane Guyer Davis; brother, Richard Guyer (Sybil); stepbrother, Gary Davis; stepsister, Carol Brothers; his beloved dog, Cadee; special brother-in-law, Marty Griffin (Jennifer); and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Walton Guyer; and stepfather, Robert Thomas Davis.

A funeral service will be conducted at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 12:00 PM with Pastors Jim Cohn and Cecil Cave officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Guyer Cemetery in Elkin, NC.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Mitzi and Kerry from Northeast Georgia Hospice Care. They brought joy and, most of all, comfort to Mark in his final days and weeks. His family is forever grateful.
