Mark Stephen Butner

Mark Stephen Butner, 71, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at his residence. A private memorial service will be held at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall at a later date. The family is accepting flowers, please contact the funeral home for more information.

Mark Butner was born on January 15, 1952, in Forsyth County to the late Walter Carl Butner and Barbara Ann Morgan Butner. Numerous aunts, uncles and other family members preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Karen Butner, son Marcus and wife Morgan Butner, son Matthew and wife Landon Butner, daughter Moriah and husband Rick Harrison, brother David Anthony and wife Cindy Butner, close cousin Phillip and wife Sandi Thomas. Along with four grandsons: Marcus and Maddox Butner, Isaac and Rezin Harrison.

As a young man Mark served in the National Guard. From there he went on to perform music with his brother in their band “The Younger Brothers” for fourteen years. In 1989, he started Butner Construction alongside his wife Karen. He had a passion for music, sports, working on hot rods, and going to the drag strip. His greatest passion of all was his wife and children, who remained his number one priority throughout life. He was a beloved husband and outstanding father. Mark was a man of great faith, integrity, compassion, and strength. As a man of urgency, he was commonly referred to as “Right Now Butner”. He treated everyone with respect and expected the same in return. He was a man that tried to lead his family, and those who had the honor of knowing him by example. “Be your best, do your best, and look your best” along with “God first, family second, then everything else” were two of his favorite quotes he commonly said and lived by. Mark is in a better place and we all can take comfort knowing that through salvation we will all be united once again, forever.
