Marilyn Dorsett Whitman

Marilyn Dorsett Whitman, 73, of Winston-Salem went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on December 22, 1941 to Theodore Roosevelt and Hazel Sink Dorsett in Forsyth County. Mrs. Whitman retired from Shoe Show with 35 years of service. She was affectionately known as ""Miss Shoe Show"" by her customers and friends in the community. She enjoyed cooking and baking, a gift she freely shared with everybody. More than anything, she loved her family, especially her two grandsons. Mrs. Whitman was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Jerry Dale Whitman. Survivors include her son, Jeffrey Whitman and wife, Jennifer; grandsons, Jacob and Zachary Whitman; brothers, Melvin Dorsett (Tamara), Teddy Dorsett (Dottie), and Archie Dorsett (Beverly); also, sister-in-law, Ann Owens (Harold); brother-in-law, James Eugene ""Jimmy"" Whitman (Laura); as well as a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Hamrick officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00-8:00 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Special thanks go to Mrs. Whitman's brother, Archie; sister-in-law, Beverly; niece, Robin; church family at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church; and also the Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center for all the loving care and assistance she received.
