Marie Tanner Hodge, 86, of Winston-Salem, NC, peacefully entered her heavenly home on December 19, 2022. She was born on July 21, 1936 in Gladys, VA to the late William Thomas and Lizzie Smith Tanner. Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 66 years, George McLeod Hodge; children Brenda (Robert) Stasiukaitis and Sandra Hagler; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; siblings Lester (Jean) Tanner, Alice Bailey, Barbara Farmer, and Louis (Trish) Tanner; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, seven sisters, and her infant great-granddaughter Anele E. Stasiukaitis.
Marie was a devoted member of Highland Presbyterian Church for 62 years. In 2021, she was honored by the Session with a resolution of unending appreciation for her 35 years of faithful volunteer service keeping the Rolls and Registers 0f the church. She also volunteered in the church office for many years and served as the director of Mother’s Morning Out for 13 years, where she joyfully and lovingly touched the lives of countless children.
Marie’s favorite pastime was playing bridge, and she did so enthusiastically for more than 50 years, most recently at the Shepherd’s Center.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held January 2, 2023 at 1 pm at Highland Presbyterian Church. Visitation will start at 12 noon in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, Marie requested that memorials be made to Highland Presbyterian Church or to the charity of your choice.
