Marie Cobbler Harrell went home December 5, 2011 from the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care Center, joining her beloved husband Leo, who passed away October 3 of this year. She was born August 11, 1928 in Rural Hall, NC to the late Modest Reba and Roy Lee Cobbler. On November 23, 1945 she wed Leo, her partner for life and for 65 years they belonged solely to each other until death did them part. During this very blessed union she raised her children and kept (and spoiled) her grandchildren, great grandchildren, as well as other children who all share memories and stories of her love (and discipline). She loved working in her flowers, and their home was always arrayed with the colors of her garden. Along with her husband, she was a faithful member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church for 62 years. Their devotion to the Lord guided them throughout their life and was a blessing shared with their entire family. She will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Junior Cobbler; and a sister, Margaret Gentry. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Rierson and husband David; two sons, Doug Harrell and wife Carol, and David Harrell and wife Kathy; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister, Polly Thorpe and husband Roger; a half sister, Carolyn Cobbler; and two half brothers, Edward and Kenny Cobbler. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Tim Wolfe and the Rev. Joe Beck officiating. Entombment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 1315 Ashley Brook Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care Center. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
