Marie Cody Adams, 96, passed away peacefully at her home on June 26, 2024, in Winston-Salem. She was born on October 5, 1927, to her parents, Clarence and Kathleen (Long) Cody of Winston-Salem. She was a lifelong member of Ardmore Moravian Church of Winston-Salem and Circle No 4.
Marie graduated from Hanes High School, Class of 1945 in Winston-Salem. She worked at Reynolds Tobacco Company for several years while married to her late husband of 72 years, James Thomas Adams, Jr. She later babysat many young children while caring for her family. James and Marie would later retire to Harkers Island, NC for 32 years living at The Unwinder. It was there that Marie would form a lasting friendship with Carol Talley for which she was forever grateful.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne G. Cody (Peggy); and her eldest son, James T. “Tommy” Adams, III. Surviving family members include her daughter, Beverly A Ellison; son, N. Dennis Adams; two grandsons, Joshua T. Ellison (Megan) and Lloyd C. Adams; great grandson, Ethan E. Ellison; and two nieces, Elizabeth T. Burleson (Mike) and Debbie C. Marsh (Chuck).
The Adams family is eternally grateful for the assistance in Marie’s latter years from Visiting Angels and Home Instead, a special thank you to the ladies for their love, patience, and kindness. In the later months of Marie’s life, Trellis Supportive Care of Winston-Salem became essential partners with her family. Dennis and Beverly are forever appreciative for their dedication and professionalism.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM on July 20, 2024, at Salem Moravian Graveyard with Reverend Joe Moore of Ardmore Moravian Church officiating. Family will receive friends at the Graveyard.
