Marian Davis Bowen

Marian Davis Bowen, 95, passed away peacefully on Feb. 7, 2013 at Salemtowne Retirement Community. Marian was born on Jan. 6, 1918 in Alton, Illinois to Clarence Ray and Clara Steinkamp Davis. Upon graduation from Monticello College and the Gradwohl School of Laboratory Technique in St. Louis, Mo., she moved to Winston-Salem and was employed at City Memorial Hospital. On March 14,1941 she married Jesse Gray Bowen, Jr. Marian was a busy homemaker, longtime member of First Christian Church, and an active volunteer in the community. She was a Forsyth Medical Center Auxiliary Life Member earning 10,979 hours, and also spent many years delivering Meals on Wheels. She was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinals. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Nancy Bowen, and brother George H. Davis. Survivors are Douglas R. (Pam) Bowen of Winston-Salem, Jesse Gray Bowen, III (Renee) of Dallas, Texas, and Mary (Chuck) Wood of Fairview, NC. Grandchildren are Melodie and Courtney Bowen, Hilton and Noelle Wood, Mandy (Mack) Ortiz and Kris Halliday Davidson, and five great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 pm on Feb. 23 at First Christian Church. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 2320 Country Club Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
