Margie Lee Barrington Purdy

KERNERSVILLE-Margie Lee Barrington Purdy, 90, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014. She was born March 5, 1924 in GA to the late Howard J. and Cleo Sharpton Barrington.

Margie was a born again Christian, and a member of Homeland Park Baptist Church in Anderson, SC. She earned her nursing degree and worked in cardiac and neonatal care. Margie loved animals and owned and operated a pet store for several years. She was very talented when it came to her needle work of knitting and crocheting. She was introduced to sports at an early age by her father who was a grounds keeper at the Augusta National Golf Course.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Huber Purdy; and two daughters, Virginia Henry and Carol McQuaig.

Surviving are her step-son, Tom Purdy and wife, Judy of Kernersville; granddaughter, Karin Everhart and husband, Mark of Lexington; great-grandchildren, Ashton and Maddison Everhart; nieces, Ellen Pickens of Anderson, SC and Brenda Reed of Lavonia, GA.; and nephew, Jimmy Reid of Hartwell, GA.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel with Dr. Bobby Roberson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
