Margie Lynn Foltz

Mrs. Lynn Foltz, 67, of Winston-Salem, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends. Born to James Ernest Wolfe and Esther Shepherd in 1948, Lynn grew up in Durham and Winston-Salem, nurtured by a large and loving family. While attending Reynolds High School Lynn met her life long sweetheart, Richard Steven Foltz at a Hi-Fi dance at the fairgrounds. They later married in 1967 and were blessed with two sons, Andy and Jonathan. While raising her family, Lynn went back to school, earning her BFA in 1987 from UNCG, then began her career as an arts educator, teaching at Petree, Latham, Ibraham, and Bolton for many years. As her skills and career grew, she earned her Masters in School Administration from Gardner-Webb University in 2006, after which she accepted more responsibilities as Arts Education Program Manager for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. In her dedication and love for education, she earned many awards, inspired many students, and turned colleagues into a diverse bouquet of friends, including among many others, Jan Detter, Cary Driver, Carolyn Mason, Debbie McNeil, Angela Pittman, Lillian Shelton, and Heidi Wicker. Retiring in 2012, Lynn was free to travel with Richard, to the mountains and the beaches, and visiting her sons. Lynn was a long time member of Friedberg Moravian Church, and her faith motivated much of her kindness and efforts. When she was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, she began to need more and more oxygen as her lung capacity diminished. Through her suffering she never complained and refused to let many know how sick she was. We are so grateful for the kindness and professional help of the nurses and doctors that attended to her in her last days. Preceded in death by her parents, and sister Ernestine Cline, Lynn is survived by her sisters Joye Beckner and Marie Echols, her brothers David Wolfe and Dennis Wolfe, her devoted husband Richard Foltz and their two sons, Andy (Lauren) Foltz and Jon (Liz) Foltz. We are so thankful for everyone's love, prayers & support during this time. We are blessed to have had her in our lives and are better people for it. She was an amazing mother to her sons, raising them to be strong, caring men. Her passion and dedication for arts education enriched the lives of hundreds, leaving a legacy that still enriches the city and county she loved. A service celebrating her life will be held at Friedberg Moravian Church at 11:00am Saturday, January 2nd. Visitation time will be held at 10:00am in the church parlor.
