Margaret Spaugh Watkins

Mrs. Margaret Spaugh Watkins, 92, of Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2011 at her home. She was born October 25, 1918 and raised in Old Salem by her parents, Nathan Eugene and Ollie Maria Spaugh. Mrs. Watkins was the oldest member of South Fork Baptist Church and has been a member there for 66 years. She worked for Hickory Farms for 23 years, and was a Hanes Mall walker that accumulated 11,202 miles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, O.B. Watkins; brothers, Luther Spaugh, Gaither Spaugh and Nathan Spaugh, Jr.; and a great grandson, A.J. Linville. Surviving are her children, Tommy Watkins (MaryAnn), Richard Watkins (Becky), and Tinky Drane (Johnny); five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and special friends, Helen Hill, Evelyn Wood, Barbara Hanes, Carol Hunter and Kathleen Causey. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 31 at South Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Sewell officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 30 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
