Margaret Bowman

Margaret Virginia Bowman, age 81 of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away after fighting cancer for 12 years on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 10:19 pm. She was born August 10, 1941 in Alleghany County, North Carolina to the late Robert Harry and Peggie Britts Bowman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister Constance (Connie) Joines and brother, Hobert Bowman.

Survivors include her nephew William (Bill) Joines and wife Sonia of Sparta North Carolina, niece Lee Ann Joines also of Sparta, first cousin John (Butch) and wife Kay Bowman of Glade Valley North Carolina. Her great nephew Chase Shumate, great niece Stephanie Shumate and great nephew Tyler and wife Naomi Shumate of Winston-Salem, North Carolina survive her deceased niece Dorris Bowman Shumate of Stamford Connecticut.

Ms. Bowman was a faithful member of Griffith Baptist Church in Winston-Salem where she regularly attended Sunday school, the main service, and many extra activities the church hosted. Over the years Ms. Bowman befriended many members who have been by her side for both good laughs and when she needed help around the house.

In addition to her church friends, she became very close friends with her neighbors.  They bonded over their love for animals (mostly cats) and discussed which of the neighborhood cats were causing mischief.

Ms. Bowman had a career in accounting, working for companies including PepsiCo, The United Way and Schweppes in Winston-Salem among others. She loved spending time outdoors where she spent most of that time in the garden. She loved growing and tending to her vegetables and other plants.

Her church family will hold a time for her friends and family to come visit at Griffith Baptist Church in Winston-Salem on Sunday February 26, 2023 starting at 2pm. This will not be an official service but only time to stop in and remember Ms. Bowman.

The surviving family members will be holding a private memorial in Sparta, North Carolina where Ms. Bowman’s family is laid to rest.
