Margaret Rose Jorizzo

Mrs. Margaret Rose Jorizzo, 93, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born September 23, 1915 in Rochester, New York to Michael and Josephine Volpe who had come to the United States from Italy at the turn of the century. Margaret graduated from Nazareth Academy and Nazareth College. She worked as an adoption social worker for the Monroe County Department of Social Services for more than 25 years. She married the late Joseph L. Jorizzo, M.D. in Pompeii, Italy on December 2, 1950. They lived in Brighton, NY and she received her Masters in Social Work from the State University of New York in Buffalo, three years after her husband's death.She was promoted to Supervisor of Medical Social Services at the Monroe Community Hospital which allowed her to educate her three children through college and medical school. She retired to Texas for six years in the early 1980's and lived in Winston-Salem, NC for the past 25 years. She was a resident at Vienna Village in Pfafftown, NC for the past 3 years. Mrs. Jorizzo is survived by her children and their families in Winston-Salem, NC; Joseph Jorizzo, MD and Irene Carros, John, Michael and Melina; Johanna Jorizzo, MD and David Schreiner, MD, Daniel and Elena. Her son and his family in Medford, Oregon, Paul Jorizzo, MD and Vera Melnyk, MD and Kristen and Matthew; her family from Rochester, NY includes, her late brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Marie Volpe, their daughter, Dottie and her family and Andee; her sister, Eleanor Volpe; her brother and his family, Michael and Marge Volpe, Michael Volpe and his children, Ellen Volpe, Martha Volpe and her family and Paul Volpe and his family. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Thursday, July 30, 2009 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1:30PM Saturday, August 1, 2009 at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Chapel in Rochester, New York with Rev. Edward Dillon officiating.
