Mrs. Margaret Louise Carter Hawkins, 77, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born in Stokes Co. on June 6, 1933 to the late Caleb Thomas Carter and Ada Stevens Carter. Mrs. Hawkins retired from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in the payroll department and faithfully attended Old Orchard Primitive Baptist Church in Westfield. Mrs. Hawkins will always be remembered for her wonderful cooking and her pound cakes. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, L.B. Hawkins Jr., a grandson, Robert Meenach, a great-grandson, Jackson Meenach and a sister, Nina Ziglar. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Meenach of Rural Hall, two sisters, Rachael Richardson (Woodrow) of Madison and Gracie Kiger of Kernersville and two brothers, Hassell Carter (Barbara) and Wayne Carter both of Sandy Ridge. A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Elder Vance Jones, Elder Rodney Marshall and Elder Scotty Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in Rural Hall Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 7-9 this evening Friday, April 29, 2011 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Flowers will be accepted or memorial may be made to: Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Old Orchard Primitive Baptist Church, 3460 Hwy 268 E., Pilot Mountain, NC 27041.
