Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Idol Lackey, 91, met her Lord and Savior Sunday, January 28, 2024, at her residence. She was born April 8, 1932, in Forsyth County, the daughter of Harrison and Sabra Harvey Idol. Margaret was raised at Union Cross Moravian Church and later was a member at Conrad Memorial Baptist Church. She had played Basketball at Sedge Garden High School and was retired from Henredon Furniture. She enjoyed bowling, all kinds of games, puzzles, attending church and loved mission tours. Margaret was a woman of strong faith, strength and a love for life and laughter. She was a champion for her family and extended family. She created a home whose doors were always open to family, friends and friends of friends. She will be missed by all that knew her. Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years James Bruce Lackey; a brother, Jim Idol and four sisters, Betty Biby, Mary Lawson, Peggy Idol and Inez Dalton. Survivors include her three daughters, Janet Smith (Rob) of Chapel Hill, Ellen High (Steve) of Kernersville and Regina Lambeth (Mike) of Winston-Salem; seven grandchildren, Ashley S. Wallace (John) of Chapel Hill, Brandon Smith of Oakland, CA., Emily Freedman (Andy) of Boston, MA., Travis High (Amy) of Decatur, GA., Mallory Howard (Phil) of Fayetteville, Ryan Lambeth of Clayton and Trenton Lambeth of Winston-Salem; ten great grandchildren, Jack, Olivia and Margaret Wallace, Nora and Grant Freedman, Riley and Reese High and Parker, Mary Cate, and Charlotte Howard; a sister, Doris Craver (Jim) of High Point and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends. A funeral will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Conrad Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Freeman officiating. The burial will follow at Union Cross Moravian Graveyard with Rev. Jimmy Newsome officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Conrad Memorial Baptist Church, 1920 N. Centennial Ave., High Point, NC 27262 or Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262 or Union Cross Moravian Church, 4295 High Point Rd., Kernersville, NC 27107.
