Margaret Benton

COLFAX - Margaret Melvanie Jones Benton, 68, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at her home. Margaret was born on June 16, 1949 in Gaston County. She was a member of Kerwin Baptist Church, where she served as the pianist for over 30 years, in the Nursing Home Ministry, Bus Ministry, and Children's Church Program. She also completed various pieces of artwork for the church throughout the years. Margaret was preceded in death by her father, Dewey Jones; and one brother, Reginald. Surviving are her husband, Charles Murray Benton; two daughters, Christina Cogdill, and Cynthia Walker (Web); one son, Charles R. Benton; three grandchildren, Alexis and Zachary Cogdill and Steven Walker; two step-grandchildren, Zach and Sam Walker; her mother, Colleen Phillips; two brothers, Lee Jones (Linda) and Randall Jones; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Kerwin Baptist Church with Pastor Daniel Hawtree, Dr. Joe Myers, and Pastor Jason Riddle officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
