Mrs. Marcia Ann Everett Polanis, 63, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born March 27, 1949 in Latrobe, PA to Arthur Carr Everett and Margaret Ann Popernack Everett. She was Department Chair Office and Medical Administrator at Forsyth Technical Community College, and an elder at Parkway Presbyterian Church where she was also a member of the Lydia Circle. She received her B.A. degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her M.A. from Appalachian State University. Mrs. Polanis was a member of the PTA, including president of the PTA at Speas and Downtown Elementary School. She loved being with her family and walking along the ocean. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mary Ann Dorko Popernack and John Andrew Popernack; and Esther Carr Everett and Arthur LeRoy Everett. Surviving are her husband, Stan Polanis of the home; two sons, Michael Polanis and wife Allison of Leawood, KS and Mark Polanis of Winston-Salem; two aunts, Anna Marie Popernack Sowerbrower and Shirley Mae Everett Hook; very special mother-in-law, Arline Polanis; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Polanis and Carol Hammad; and two brothers-in-law, Jeffery Polanis and Gary Polanis. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Parkway Presbyterian Church with Pastor Dan Wilkers officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cancer Services, 3175 Maplewood Ave., Winston-Salem, NC 27103; Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103; or Second Harvest Food Bank, 3655 Reed St., Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
