KERNERSVILLE - Marcia Lynn Callahan Pike, 58, passed away Monday, September 1, 2008, surrounded by her family at her home. She was born December 19, 1949 in Forsyth Co. to the late John Lancaster and Jewel Ingram Callahan. She was a life long resident of Kernersville and a lifelong member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church. Mrs. Pike graduated from East Forsyth High School class of 1968, and Forsyth Memorial School of Nursing with a registered nurse's degree in 1971. She went on to have a long and distinguished career in nursing and loved her profession. She had been employed for the last twenty-seven years at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, and had spent the last fourteen years in the Pulmonary & Critical Care, Allergy and Immunological Disease Department and was a Certified Asthma Educator. She was a nurse by profession and also by nature, taking care of many loved ones, friends, and neighbors over the years. She married her childhood sweetheart, Arlis Pike, on November 14, 1970 and had two sons, Anthony and Jonathan. Marcia dedicated her life to her husband and sons and found her greatest joy in their success. She was a loving, devoted and wonderful grandmother to her four grandchildren, whom she treasured. She took great pride in making holidays and birthdays special for each one of them and her love for them was infinite and indescribable. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Melanie Watson. Surviving are her husband, Arlis Pike of the home; her sons, Anthony E. and wife Jennifer White Pike, Jonathan W. and wife Jennifer Ring Pike all of Kernersville; her grandchildren, Chloe, Dalton, Luke, and Lilly Pike; her sisters, Robin Gautier Miller and husband Richard, and April C. Marshall all of Kernersville; her brothers, Larry Callahan and wife Betty, Barry Callahan and wife Lynn all of Kernersville; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am, Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Pine Grove United Methodist Church by Rev. Dr. Bonnie Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or The American Porphyria Foundation, 4900 Woodway Suite 780, Houston, TX 77056-1837. The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Aneysa Sane and Gale Marterre, who were wonderful friends to Marcia and her family before, during and after her illness; and to her sister and best friend, Robin Gautier Miller, who was a constant source of encouragement and strength to both the family and Marcia during this very difficult time.
