Marcella Degen Schneider

Mrs. Marcella Caroline Degen Schneider, born May 11, 1921 in Burlington, Wisconsin. A recent resident of North Carolina, she spent the majority of her life in Columbus and Toledo, Ohio after growing up in Wisconsin. She was the widow of Dr. Stanley D. Schneider, former pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio and retired professor of homiletics and liturgics at the Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. Asked of her life's accomplishments, she often cited an anecdote from Roman history. Visited by women boasting of their expensive clothes and jewelry, Cornelia was asked to show off her own finery. Cornelia left briefly, returning to the room with her children. She said to the women, ""These are my jewels."" She is survived by family, Philip J. Schneider and Candy Schneider of Scottsdale, AZ, Carolyn Schneider and Sherry Sherrill of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Gretchen Schneider and Scott Lanzon of Livingston, MT; Karl Schneider and Whitney Lucks of Columbus, OH. Also surviving are her brother, Bernard Degen and sisters, Gertrude Veenendaal and Elnora Baptie. Plans for a memorial service for Mrs. Schneider are pending at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27013. The family would like to thank Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their attentive caring for Marcella and support to her family.
