Mallonee Ward King

Mr. Mallonee Ward King, 84, of Winston-Salem died Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born September 28, 1927 in Durham County, the son of the late, Ellliott Carlton and Ethel Allen King. Mr. King attended Oaklawn Baptist Church and loved to play golf as long as he was able. He was a graduate of James A. Gray High School and retired from Colonial Stores/Big Star Foods. He was proud to be a US Marine, proud to be an American, and most proud to be a Christian. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Urchel King, Whalen King and Meredith Goode. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Wilma Cole King; two daughters, Cynthia Leigh King and Kimberly King Russell and husband, Tripp of Clemmons; one stepson, S. Victor Marler and wife, Beverly of Kernersville; one beloved granddaughter, Brooke Barbour Childress and husband, Jared of Clemmons; one brother, Allan King and wife, Carol of Concord; four sisters, Saphera Anthony of King, Nancy Gordon of High Point, Earleen Quesinberry of Winston-Salem, and Linda Reeves of Denver, NC; his father-in-law, Herbert Cole, who was a special inspiration to Mallonee; his lifelong friend, Phillip Price; and many other special friends and family. The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 1:30 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Bill James officiating. A military graveside service will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, 4 A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all personnel in ICU3 at Forsyth Medical Center and to God's Angel that he had as his nurse on the day he died, Ila Doby.
